RESTORATION 1937 CHEVROLET STANDARD SPORTS ROADSTER Body No 3 of 184 produced Cost when new 294 Pounds I bought the Roadster off a friend who had brought it home to Melbourne from Broken Hill. I said to this friend that if he ever wanted to sell the car I was interested in purchasing it. About 12 months later he rang me up and said that he was retiring to Bright (Vic) and to come and have a look at it and if I wanted it for the price that he was asking it was mine. The rest is now history. The car was originally bought from a lady in Broken Hill. Chev Club member Owen Boyd from Broken Hill has chased up all the past owners. It had 7 owners from Broken Hill. The friend that I bought it from and myself All up 9 owners that this car has had. Owen called on Mrs Symons who told him that her husband had had the car before they were married. I bought the car in 1985 in a wrecked condition (the wife thought the car should have been taken to the rubbish tip) but being a sports roadster I had different ideas Not long after I bought the car home a full restoration was started. Some one had stated to cut the rear off the roadster section to make a ute out of it. I took the car to a sand blaster and had the car completely sandblasted and primed. The door pillars were made of wood and rotten. So steel ones from a 37 Chev. Sedan were cut and welded in. All the body work was done by a friend Eric Nicholls, a retired body builder, I was lucky to get from another friend a new complete block still in a crate. This block had no engine No stamped on it. At one of the Bendigo Swaps I bought a new head, new valves, new push rods etc from Hall Brothers who had a G.M. Dealership in Kerang (Vic) Then I got a new Radiator made for the car. I managed to pick up 5 new 16 cross ply tyres. The brakes have all been restored with stainless steel inserts Col Bradford has also supplied a lot of parts to finish this car off. The upholstery was done by Ralf Sanaman in Mulgrave. A new stainless steel grill from Ian Maris has been fitted. I have also have the sports steering wheel and gear stick pearl coated in red. The original glove box clock came from talking to a fellow Chev. Member at Goulburn, and the original radio from a Swap Meet at Yara Glen last year. These items have now finished the car off The Chev has attended the last 3 Chevrolet Anniversary Rallies Cowra Forbes Goulburn. Also twice to the Bay to Birdwood Rally South Australia plus all over Victoria to Rallies and events towing a campervan
