At the ripe old age of seventeen and a half I acquired my
first car. A 1929 Super Seven Triumph. After much effort
I had a very reliable vehicle. At that time one did ones
own maintenance or walked. A set of wheels was a most
desirable commodity to pull the girls. Just imagine two
males and two females in the single seat of a Super Seven.
It was great fun changing gears.
I had this vehicle for about four and a half years and
saw a large amount of Victoria in it. We even towed a
trailer to Lakes Entrance on a camping trip.
1929 Super Seven Triumph
I finally traded it in for an almost new Holden Utility.
As the years passed, I developed the desire to own another
Triumph. My first effort was a green Super Nine.
It had been in the Dandenong area before it came to my
attention. In the sixties it was a popular pastime
to chop up old vehicles to create hotrods.
This was one of the unfortunate victims. I was assured
it was seventy five percent complete, but in fact I
would say twenty five percent original. It was a case of
be creative or scrap the project. It has turned out to
be a real BITZA but certainly goes well. With the
experience under the belt I then set out to get a Super
Seven. I traveled to Sydney and purchased a trailer load
of scrap metal (thats what my wife said) the bones of
a 1929 Super Seven Triumph.
Sydney and the 1929 Super 7 Triumph "Tru Blu"
1927 Super 7 Triumph "Lil Red" Doctors Coupe
I knew of a Super Seven at Warrnambool with the body
style I wanted to use. The owner kindly allowed me to
measure the body. Incidentally this car is now owned
by a member of the DVHCC. The task was ambitious but
with the help of the Pre-54 Triumph Register I
acquired the necessary parts and technical details
required. After success with this project I discovered
there were enough parts to create a second car. The
Doctors Coupe is a rare body (about 4 in Australia)
one existed in Traralgon. The owner allowed me to
take the necessary measurements to create the hard top.

My cars are the remains of several cars and I am quite
satisfied with their performance. Purists may not be
impressed as I have taken liberties with all three.
The sevens have Downdraught Carbies
One has coil ignition
One has a four speed gear box
The Nine has a Triumph 2000 engine (Vanguard) which
was in the vehicle rather than the Coventry Climax Inlet
over Exhaust in the original car and many other parts
from different makes.

I believe a car is to drive rather than a pretty object
to only be admired.
